Undeniable by Madeline Sheehan - Review

Warning: This is not a "typical love story". This is an all-consuming, soul-crushing, tear-your-heart-into-pieces story. It’s intense, gritty and raw, dark and disturbing, and it doesn’t happen overnight. This is an epic love story that knows no boundaries and has no time limits. It grows and develops—with hurt, sacrifice, and heartache—over the span of a lifetime.

Eva Fox is the princess of the Silver Demons Motorcycle Club. Growing up with bikers in the club lifestyle is all that she knows. When she’s a young girl, Eva meets the reason for her existence. Deuce West is the sexy, biker bad-ass of the Hell’s Horsemen Motorcycle Club. Like Eva, he was born and raised in the club—but that’s where the similarities end. Their first meeting is innocent, but as Eva matures into a woman, their chance reunions evolve into a fit of lust and love. Fate continues to bring them together time and time again, but their twisted journey is filled with pain, betrayal, and bloodshed that could tear them apart. Eva sees in Deuce what he cannot see in himself—a man worthy of love—and Eva spends her lifetime proving to him that her undeniable love is the one thing he can’t live without.

This is Eva and Deuce’s story.

It wasn’t easy. Nothing worth doing ever is.

And love is worth everything.

Warning:  Lots of profanity and squeeing in this post.

I.  Can't.  Even.

I don't know where to start.

I hate happy love stories.  I hate sappy, romantic, bulls#!t.

I love dark, twisted stories with characters so flawed you wonder if there is any hope for redemption.  This is one of those books and it has become one of my favorites.  If you're looking for hearts and roses and poems, walk away son.  Walk away.  You won't find any of that here.  This isn't your typical love story, and thank goodness because those bore me to death.

This story is BAT.  SHIT.  CRAZY.  and I loved every word, letter, and punctuation mark of it.  This story will get in your face, slap you, beat you down and rip your heart out.

I bought this book because Debbie over at Talk Supe wouldn't stop talking about the second book of the series, Unbeautifully.  She was all over my FB feed with squeeeees that I had to pick up the first book.  Thanks Debbie.  This book rocked my world.

“There are weak men; men who run and hide when life slaps them in the ass. Then there are men; men who have a backbone yet occasionally, when life slaps them in the ass, will rely on others. And then there are real men; men who don’t cry or complain, who don’t just have a backbone, they are the backbone. Men who make their own decisions and live with the consequences, who accept responsibility for their actions or words. Men who, when life slaps them in the ass, slap back and move on. Men who live hard and die even harder.  Men like my father and my uncles. Men I loved with all my heart.  Men like Deuce.”

Deuce.  Eff you Deuce!  I wanted to give him my heart and soul one minute and beat the living shit out of him the next minute.  If you want a bad boy, look no further, Deuce is THE bad boy.  He's one of them bad boys you feel like you can change, but then he bags you, leaves you and bags the next chick he sees.  And when you catch him, he doesn't take his eyes off of you and there is not one ounce of guilt on his face.  MOTHER EFFER.

“I am Preacher's little girl. And I'm gonna be just like him when I grow up. I'm gonna have a Fatboy but I want mine to be sparkly and I want a pink helmet with skulls on it. And instead of being the club President, I'm gonna be the club Queen cuz I'm gonna marry the biggest, scariest biker in the whole world and he's gonna let me do whatever I want because he's gonna love me like crazy.”

Eva.  She was a crazy ass spitfire. She didn't take shit from anyone...even Deuce.  She loved with every part of herself, even people who were so not deserving of her love.  She does what she has to do to save the ones she loves, sacrificing more than I could ever imagine.  She was an innocent surrounded by violence and debauchery.

Deuce and Eva meet when Deuce is 23 years old and Eva is 5 years old.  Both of them visiting their fathers in jail.  How romantic right?  I know, I know, the age difference is great, but like I said, this is not your typical love story.

Deuce and Eva run into each other over the years, mainly because of their respective motorcycle clubs. Deuce is from the Hell's Horsemen and Eva's father is the leader of the Silver Demons.  They don't have anything more than fleeting moments with each other, but those moments are enough to carry them through the years before they see each other again.

“And babe, when I kissed you and you kissed me back, not knowing what the fuck you were doin’ but doin’ it anyway, not carin’, just feelin’, I fuckin’ lost myself in that kiss. Couldn’t remember ever losin’ myself in a kiss until then.  That fuckin’ kiss, Eva, has gotten me through some pretty bad nights. That fuckin’ kiss reminds me that life ain’t all bad.”

God I love him.  And hate him.  I may love him a tiny bit more than I hate him, but not by much.

Eva and Deuce together is like watching a horrific train wreck in slow motion.  You want to walk away and have nothing to do with the two of them, but the two of them together is oh so good.

“If that's what it takes to get laid, then I'm a fuckin' poet. Other times I'm a fuckin' accountant. Or a plumber. Sometime's a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do.”

The other characters in this book make up a pretty impressive, tangled web of crazy but I loved every single one of them.  They got under my skin and sometimes made it crawl, but I couldn't get enough.

I can't explain how much I loved this story and I can't wait to read the next book in the series.  Reading this book was like being tortured slowly, but you liked every minute of it and were left begging for more.

Now excuse me while I try to convince my hubby to go out and buy a motorcycle.

Because of You (Playing with Fire #2) by T.E. Sivec - Excerpt and Giveaway

Brady Marshall has made a career of playing it safe. When he decides to do something rash and becomes a Navy SEAL, he thinks he's finally escaped the rigid structure of the high society life his parents forced down his throat. All he does is trade in one set of rules for another. He follows military protocol to a T, but it still results in the death of an entire team of Navy SEALS and puts his best friends directly in harm's way. He’s struggled to stay afloat and not drown in grief, guilt, and booze, but he's losing that battle quickly. When his baby sister flees her abusive husband and shows up on his doorstep with his young niece in tow, he has no choice but to clean up his act. He will stop at nothing to protect them and never let them down again, even if it means taking a job that goes against everything he believes in. If protecting a pop star princess who thinks she's better than everyone means he can keep a roof over their head, what other choice does he have?

Layla Carlysle has lived a life of luxury. She's been a star since the young age of fifteen, and every record she releases shoots straight to the top of the charts. She has people surrounding her every single day telling her how amazing she is, how beautiful she is, and how lucky she is, but she’s never felt more alone in her entire life. She wants nothing more than to break free and do what she really wants to do: write her own music, sing her own songs, and find a way to finally be happy with her life. The only thing standing in her way is her mother, Eve Carlysle. Eve has controlled every single aspect of her daughter’s life and will stop at nothing to achieve fame and fortune, even if that means using her daughter to get there. When an overly-amorous fan’s letters become increasingly more sinister, Brady will have to suck up his opinion of how the other half lives to take the job seriously. The pair will need to learn to trust each other and put aside their differences before the letters become a reality and someone’s life is in jeopardy.

Brady has been to hell and back, and he refuses to let anyone else get close to him again. Layla has never lived her life for herself, and the emptiness is threatening to break her for good.

Sometimes our lives are already planned for us, but because of you, all of that could change in an instant.

Excerpt:

“Look, about what happened between us…”

Layla jumps up from the floor, her eyes glued to her feet as she steps around the broken glass and hurries past me.

“Forget about it. It was a mistake and it shouldn’t have happened. I just needed to forget about that guy’s hands on me. So…whatever,” she says with a shrug.

I stare at her retreating back in shock and anger as she heads towards the adjoining bathroom. Taking only a second before I storm after her, I wrap my hand around her arm and turn her around to face me.

“Let’s get something straight here,” I say with clenched teeth, staring down into her wide eyes as I try to keep my composure and not scare her half to death with my anger at her ambivalence. “This wasn’t a mistake. Not by a long shot. I’ve wanted to bury myself inside of you since the first moment you and your attitude walked into the room.”

Epilogue: The Dark Duet (Book#3) by CJ Roberts - Available for Pre-order!

BOOK 3 OF THE DARK DUET

I’m writing this because you begged. You know how I love the begging. In fact, you probably know too many things and know them far too well.

Who am I?

Well, that’s what I’m trying to figure out. I was a whore in my youth, a killer since my adolescence, and a monster as a man. I am the man who kidnapped Livvie. I am the man who held her in a dark room for weeks. But, most importantly, I am the man she loves.

She loves me. It’s quite sick, isn’t it?

Of course, there’s more to our story than can be surmised in a few short sentences, but I’m at a loss for justifying my behavior back then. I assume if you’re reading this, I don’t need to make those justifications. You’ve already made your own.

You’re reading this because you want to know about the rest of the story. You want to know what happened that warm summer night in September of 2010, the night I met Livvie at The Paseo. It was the night my life changed all over again. It didn’t happen exactly as Livvie said. She’s been very kind to me in the retelling of our story.

The truth is far more…complicated.

Oh.  Good.  LAWD.Caleb is back and June 15th cannot come soon enough!  This might be my most anticipated book of 2013.

If you haven't read the first 2 books in the series; Captive in the Dark (#1) and Seduced in the Dark (#2), please read them.  NOW!

What are you waiting for?Caleb is a man you will love to hate, then hate to love then love to hate again.  I can't even describe how amazing his character is.  *sigh*

Golf clap to Ms. CJ Roberts for writing a beautifully dark and disturbing story.  I can't wait to see it all from Caleb's point of view!

Are You Mine by N.K. Smith - Cover Reveal and Teaser

Human connection? Who needs it?

Ever since she can remember, wealthy but weary Saige Armstrong has felt different from her peers in Pechimu, New Jersey. With only one good friend to her name, she has navigated the complicated halls of high school and is now faced with the timeless question: Now what?

Fox Harrington, a fun-loving, socially charismatic graffiti artist uses his passions to color his world exactly how he wants it. He knows exactly where his life is headed. That is, until he meets Saige.

A summer project links the two together, making a tentative friendship bloom into romance, but despite their affection for each other, fundamental beliefs and ways of thinking threaten to destroy all they have built.

In this tender story of young love, N.K. Smith delivers a striking tale of two people standing on the precipice of adult life.

Teaser:

His weight on me is new and wonderful, and when his lips find mine, I’m sure there’s nothing better in the universe. He moves his mouth lower and his tongue touches the hollow of my neck. I can’t stop shivering. I close my eyes when his lips are back to mine, and I tighten my arms around him.

There’s something frenetic, yet measured in the way he kisses me. It’s not hard to figure out that I’m the wild frenzy, and he’s the calm, dignified restraint. I can’t move much because the weight of him limits me, but I’m able shift just enough to free my legs. It’s instinctive to wrap them around his waist, but that brings about a whole other rush of sensations.

I inhale deeply the moment his lips part from mine, but it’s only a moment of freedom. Fox’s tongue sweeps out over my bottom lip, and it’s all I can do to let out my breath in a slow, but stuttered exhale.

It’s crazy how much I want him. It’s insane how just being with him changes everything.
